If you’re only alive when you smile,
what a short life that would be.
But how do we measure life’s success,
when one’s time here ends so abruptly?
Nick, for you, the answer is easy,
your friends have spoken so loud it’s a shout.
Your warm hugs, smile and antics renown
a character through and through without a doubt.
Jumping on the bus early each weekday,
pockets full of candy and gum, ready to giveaway.
That laugh we all know it, god it was loud
powerful to lift anyone’s spirit when down.
Just a walk into school, you didn’t know how important you were –
and then there was that day with those pixie stix – an adventure for sure.
It was your absolute love of life that affected everyone,
those halls wont be the same, you were the greatest of all time and then some
As an outsider it was made quite clear
From reading the beautiful tributes you all wrote
The love in your heart will keep him here
Nick’s music will continue each memory a different note.
Those memories – from snowball fights to his favorite sports,
Nick was a force on the field and even better on the court.
His loyalty to friends certainly wasn’t subtle –
and he always demanded justice, even if it meant trouble.
Before I wrap up this brief tribute,
you as his friends and teachers all know,
Our favorite Ukrainian was certainly not shy:
he was the star of everyone’s show.
So from the bottom of my heart, in our saddest of days,
know your letters brought us comfort, we will remember them always.
And as the years go by, if you see candy or a large pink shoe…
remember that every day counts, and smile as only Nick would do.
